A VERSION WITH .4375" WALLS THAT CAN BE MADE FROM 1 X 6 WOOD
This is a design I saw on a Facebook group. It was made by Dave Gasser and I thought it was so simple and genius that I had to make 3D files for it. All models are .625" tall so scale it to that. There are tighter fitting versions and one slightly oversized. a 1/4" ball end mill should cut it nice and fast. a light spring on top and you are good to go.. I left the bolt and screw holes out because those are really up to you. the groove only versions should easily come into vcarve on a zero plane and just add your 2D profile and holes.

I had to make a prop for a party so I'm sharing the files with everyone. I will be adding a few others to this collection within a few days.
I'm making a useless box with my son. There's a link to the project below by others. But this is my box I'll be putting it in. might be some changes as I go. It uses two S3003 servos, an Arduino NANO, and a 2 position switch (ON/ON). I had ideas to make a unique trigger arm by it just was too complicated.

My outlines are be sized for 1x8 and 1x12 boards and optimized for a 1/4" bit which means no inside radius less than .125". That means fast cutout times. But some of the vectors will be designedfor v carving. see the blue notes.

I designed a drag knife based off another but designed to be milled out of 3/8" aluminum bar on the x-carve. it will be cut with a 1/4" end mill except for the place for the 1/4" rod valley which requires a 1/4" ball. I'm not including the screw holes for the clamps because they can easily be done by hand or on a drill press.

My Arduino NANO rough wiring diagram. (click to enlarge). The Issue I ran into was the NANO takes around 9VDC to power safely from the Vin pin. The servos take 5VDC. the NANO has a 5VDC output BUT it has a max output of 40ma. Larger servos take over 100ma. I used a 600ma 5VDC step down connected to the 9VDC power supply to feed the larger servos. (NOT IN VIDEOS). I wanted this to be plugged into the wall and not worry about batteries.
First done is the KEY. this would also make a great ornament.
